Nintendo this morning has announced a voluntary exchange program for the somewhat flimsy Wii-mote straps after more and more issues with the strap breaking and causing damage have been reported.
The company will replace the 3.2 million original straps (which measure at 0.024 inch diameter) with a more study version that clock in at a 0.04 inch diameter. The worldwide exchange is expected to cost the company several million dollars. Even with a strap nearly twice as thick, Nintendo still urges Wii users to keep control of their remote, hold it tightly, and not swing as wildly.
