As we've all heard, the PlayStation 3 pre-order programs are beginning to fall apart. So far, Gamestop and EB Games are falling short, and Best Buy pulled their online pre-orders down completely. Today, Amazon has officially announced that they will not have any PS3 stock available for pre-order, or quite possibly, through the end of the year. The lack of preorders are not totally surprising as we're literally only a few days from launch.
So far, only Toys R Us claims they will have enough stock to fill their preorders, but we'll see how that works out.
Below is the official announcement from Amazon.
Due to inventory constraints, we regret to announce that Amazon will not be conducting any preorders for the Sony PS3. We will continue to update this discussion board with more information as soon as it's available.
Thank you for your continued support of Amazon.com.
...
We value our customers above all else here at Amazon which is exactly why our team has been negotiating with both Sony and Nintendo for months with regards to the Wii and PS3 allocations. We see the passion in the discussion boards and are doing everything we can to try to get product for you, our customers.
Again, we sincerely apologize that we will not be conducting pre-orders. This was not an easy decision, but we made the decision because we want to ensure that we can fulfill all of the orders that are placed within a reasonable time period. We understand your frustration, but we believe it would be extremely irresponsible if we took pre-orders for product that we may not be able to deliver until 2007.
