Microsoft is voluntarily replacing the power cords that came with Xbox consoles manufactured before October 23, 2003. This is a precautionary measure done out of concern for consumer safety. There is no charge to the consumer for this replacement. Some power cords have been cited as the cause of some small fires. To determine if you're eligible for the power cord replacement you will need to go online to www.xbox.com and click on the link "Power Cord Replacement for Xbox". The site will ask for your manufacturing date and serial number, both of which are located on the bottom of your Xbox system.
Alternatively customers can call 1-866-271-0450 to obtain a replacement cord. Microsoft suggests to unplug your Xbox while not in use until your new power cord arrives in the mail 4 to 6 weeks later. Stores will not be doing any exchanges and the power cords must be obtained directly through Microsoft. If you have an Xbox that was manufactured after October 23, 2003 there isn't any reason to get a power cord replacement.
