Hands-on: SD Gundam Force: Showdown!
Bite size characters with a mean streak.
Those pint sized Gundam are back in a new videogame based on the anime series, SD Gundam Force. SD Gundam Force: Showdown! for the PS2 is a simplified game directed towards the cartoon viewing audience. Easy controls, super friendly menus, and quirky characters are all in the latest build of the game.

An entity known as the Dimension Halo is pirating worlds and copying them into its own dimensional system. The Super Defense Force that consists of soldiers Captain Gundam, Zero, and Bakunetsumaru. They all investigate with main man Captain Haro and kid supporter Shute. After a briefing, one of the three Gundam soldiers head out to investigate different replicated worlds to find out more about the Dimension Halo and fight some bad seeds along the way.

Each level has three blocks and one boss area. The levels are pretty simple with enemies here and there. Each Gundam has their own fighting style; Captain Gundam blasts lasers, Zero whacks with a big sword, and Bakunetsumaru uses dual samurai swords to quick slice robots. After clearing the enemies, a portal opens up to the next area. It’s straightforward and not all that complex.

The graphics hold steady at 30 frames per second with cel shading to compliment the anime. The voice acting is high quality, and everything that’s said in the game has a voice track to it. Some of it can be too slow and repetitive, but hey, it’s supposed to be for kids.

SD Gundam Force: Showdown! hits stores next month.
