Online gaming has become an important feature of sports releases this year and Microsoft is banking on XSN Sports to keep them ahead of the rest. The idea of XSN Sports is to combine the functions of an Xbox, the Xbox Live service and a users’ PC. Setting up leagues, keeping tabs on Xbox Live users while on the PC and organizing tournaments are only a small part of XSN Sports’ goal.
"XSN Sports will revolutionize sports video games as we know them," said Ed Fries, corporate vice president of Xbox games publishing at Microsoft. "The ability to create customized leagues and tournaments among your group of friends, where the competition truly matters, is the breakthrough sports gamers have been waiting for."
XSN Sports kicks off with the release of NFL Fever 2004 on the Xbox today. Whether or not XSN Sports shall actually revolutionize sports video games as we know them is yet to be seen, but Microsoft is certainly making some interesting moves.
