Infogrames Entertainment SA, a global publisher of interactive entertainment software, today announced it has entered into a joint venture with Hudson Soft Corp. The agreement is part of Infogrames’ global strategy to strengthen its presence in the Japanese market. Hudson Soft is a leading publisher of interactive entertainment in Japan. Based on Infogrames’ commitment to Asia, and specifically the Japanese market, the company opened a subsidiary in Japan in January 2000. The joint venture with Hudson Soft Corp. is another step in Infogrames’ strategy to build a development and publishing infrastructure in Japan. The new organization is based in Tokyo and named Infogrames Hudson K.K. The agreement included a 70% contribution by Infogrames and a 30% contribution by Hudson Soft, totaling 66 million yen. The lead banker for the deal was Bank Nomura.
Infogrames Hudson K.K. will be headed by Mr. Tadahiro Nakano who is the general manager of Hudson Soft Corp. He will direct a development team of 10 people. Infogrames Hudson K.K.’s strategy is to develop a strong presence in the Japanese territory to enable Infogrames to better approach the Japanese market and build new local partnerships.
The main objective of the joint venture is to develop games for next generation consoles, including the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, Nintendo’s Game Cube and Nintendo’s Game Boy Advance. Three titles are planned for release in summer of 2001 and will be distributed in Japan by Infogrames Hudson K.K. Distribution to other territories will be handled by Infogrames’ vast distribution network.
