Outrun 2 was playable at the Xbox booth at this year's E3. The highly anticipated title did not disappoint with blazing speed, exotic locals, and classic Outrun gameplay that should have retro fans and racing fans sweating for more.

The E3 demo was far along and pushed the Xbox to new limits of beauty. The racer sped off at 60 fps without a hitch as race cars blistered through exotic city, desert, forest, and roman locations. The textures, lighting, scenery, everything was flat out gorgeous in the game. The control was also arcade perfect as players weave and dodge through traffic to get to the next checkpoint. If players crash, the girl in the car gets upset, just like in the original Outrun. This time she's more vocal and can spout "What are you doing??", and rapidly punches the guy's shoulder among other quips.

The trademark Outrun crashes have been updated for more varied but impacted crashes. Cars running at full speed into a wall can do flips in the air and generally get tossed pretty bad.

This is by far the arcade home racer that Sega fans have been waiting for since the release of Sega Rally 2 for Dreamcast. Except this time, it looks and plays arcade perfect. Outrun 2 speeds into stores this fall.
