Spy Fiction, a new espionage game by Sammy Studios, was on display at E3 and looked to be a fresh new take on the spy genre. Some of it is modeled after classic MGS action, but there's enough new to keep players interested.
The main character has a number of functions to be sneaky. The most unique to the game is a photographic function that allows the protagonist to photograph any person, take their uniform and face information, and use it for himself. In one scenario, main character Billy needs to pass an entry point for enemy soldiers. Players have to photograph a solider near the entrance. Capture only a partial view of the solider and you may only have access to the face or body. Get a full shot of the soldier and you'll have full access to the face and body to complete the disguise. Players then need to head to a safe spot to change (in this case it was dumpster), hop out and head to the entrance. The guard seems skeptical at first, but when Billy shows the need to pee, he lets him through. Players then need to act the part of the disguise through an action button that changes depending on the disguise, and generally not acting like a good to raise suspicion.
The shooting is a bit different in Spy Fiction, but still effective. There is not lock on, but players need to hold onto a button to bring up a cursor, then let go to fire. The visuals were clean, detailed, and all moved at a brisk 60 fps.
Spy Fiction is a title to watch. It hits this September.
