Death by Degrees was playable at the Namco booth at E3. The action title starring lethal assasin Nina Williams was not the slick as any of her outfits, and still has some work cut out for it.
Death by Degrees is an action adventure game where Nina Williams has to sneak, fight, and even swim to get the job done. Along the way players will have to pick up items and search around different areas to complete the mission.
The visuals are mixed so far. Nina moved in 60 fps in less complex parts of the game, and 30 fps in action oriented parts. The textures aren't overly complicated and the character models are basic. The analog control was a little bit clunky. The right analog controls combat to let Nina hit in any direction. Enemies tend to come from all sides, and the analog hits blocked enemy strikes and followed up with clean hits. Nina can also evade quickly by snapping the left analog in any direction. Nina herself controls a little bit slow and the 30 fps combat didn't match the snappier action associated with her character in Tekken.
Nina can also do a death blow move when a power meter is charged up. But the connection with the enemy had to be absolutely direct, which was difficult using the current controls.
Besides hand-to-hand combat, Nina can bust out dual machine guns and other weapons found in the location. Firing can be done in any direction quickly. Just hold the L trigger and point with right analog to fire in any direction.
Death by Degrees still needs work. The combat isn't up to par yet and the sluggish movement needs to be ramped up. It hits this October.
