After hundreds of e-mails asking for more (OK, so only 2), Gaming Age is pleased to bring you part 4 of Flashback: Video Game Advertising. If you recall, the first part took a look at the NES, while parts two and three focused on the Genesis, Sega CD, and 32X. This time around we've graduated to the Super Nintendo. As mentioned in past installments, Nintendo of America never advertised in magazines until around 1994, so third party licensees, such as Konami and Capcom, created the first print ads for the system. However, when Nintendo did join the crowd with print advertising they did so with a bang. All of the jabs by Sega must have finally pushed Nintendo over the edge. Just wait until you see some of the print ads comparing Genesis to the Super NES. This special feature would not be possible without the humongous time and effort offered by David Minter. He has provided us with over 60 commercials to show over the course of this ongoing special. I scanned all print ads. If you have a special print ad that you'd like to see that we haven't posted yet, feel free to e-mail me and I'll see what I can do. Please keep in mind that I only have access to U.S. magazines. On with the article then!
