Who hasn't wanted to run around in giant 2 legged robots and blow up other giant robots? Fortunately War World delivers. With three single player modes and four multiplayer modes, along with plenty of different mechs, players get just that.
War World is a third person shooter designed to be mainly multiplayer. All of the modes are items like Death Match, Team Death Match, Capture the Flag, etc. Most of the modes involve either large battles where everyone is the enemy, or teams of mechs facing off against each other. The single player arcade mode has players playing stages in predetermined mechs fighting off several rounds of enemies before proceeding. There are 12 different machines to choose from, unfortunately there is absolutely no custom configuration available. The game also suffers from some balance issues where more often than not, the smallest mech tends to be able to destroy most any others fairly easily because of speed differences.
Graphically War World is done rather well for an XBLA game, especially for $10. Most of the time seems to have been spent on making the game look good. This gives the game a little more polished look, until players get a camera angle that looks out among most of the battlefield which causes the frame rate to drop. The music in the game is well done and fast paced, and works well for having large robots clash on a large battlefield.
Overall War World is a reasonably fun, good looking XBLA title. The biggest problem is mech balance, which hopefully can be fixed in a later patch.
