 FIFA Street 3
Are soccer games supposed to be this high scoring?
The team at EA Sports Big brings the sports world to gamers in a light unseen in normal circumstances. They take seemingly ordinary sports ideas such as football, basketball, and soccer and make them stylish, full of tricks, and high scoring. In the simplest of terms you can call this the EA Arcade sports series as there is enough flash and casual game play involved in the Street series to allow for the most uninterested sports fan to at least give it a look. For this reviewer, I can't say I'm a huge fan of this over the top style, as I'm a purist. Fortunately for EA, there are gamers who aren't so serious about the sport in which these games are designed for.

The latest in this endeavor is FIFA Street 3. If you are looking for low scoring, strategically placed teammates set up in formations that will keep the offence at bay, accompanied by a smart, sure handed goalie... then this game isn't for you. FIFA Street 3 provides a small playing field and only one objective in mind, score and score often. Toss in some flashy moves and ridiculous lighting effects and you have yourself arcade soccer at its best.

To go along with this formula comes the cartoonish visual style. The player models look straight out of Disney with lanky, yet disproportioned body styles, over exaggerated moves, and animations that are not typically possible by a normal human. Of course this is also part of the game's charm that will keep fans riveted and gamers who typically wouldn't give soccer games a second look interested. Players will flip off walls, leap past defenders, or perform gravity defying one timers in order to get the ball past the awaiting goalie. The exotic locales provide an atmosphere that is tailor made for such moves and athletic impossibilities. Expect to play in urban playgrounds of South America, the rooftops of Asia, and the streets of Europe. All this flair running at a slick 60fps making for an energetic rush of adrenaline from a typically laid back sport.

Pulling off well timed tackles or impossible move sets and tricks are easy to do and fun to master all the possibilities. Pull off enough of these maneuvers and you can set your team up for game breaker plays that can either add that bit of extra oomph for your offense, or make a huge play on defense. Of course none of this matters as far as strategy goes as FIFA Street 3 for better or worse is a high scoring gig due to the no brained A.I. for the goalies. If you were hoping for a low scoring affair full of dramatic one goal conclusions, then you have the wrong game in mind. Don't get me wrong, I know that arcade style action is deemed for the high scoring frame of mind, but when the goal tending is so bad that the game comes down to who has the ball in the last seconds, it takes away any real fun a game designed like this has to offer.

Of course if you don't mind all this, then there is enough meat and potatoes to keep you interested for a while. You have 250 of the world's best players to play with or against. There is a street challenge mode that allows you to play in a variety of tournaments and unlock extra goodies, and of course you have a few online perks as well to take your scoring talents all over the world.

FIFA Street 3 will provide an enjoyable time for anyone who doesn't take their sports too seriously. You will get a visual style that is like no other, the ability to perform over the top moves off of interactive environments, and score a lot during the process. This is soccer on adrenaline.
