I’m sure by now there are plenty of Xbox 360 haters that are wondering why game developers are just porting over titles instead of developing fresh games. Well, your guess is as good as mine on that one, but what I do have for you today is a review of another port from a game released last year called Battlefield 2: Modern Combat. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy that this game is getting the next generation treatment. You have enhanced visual including dramatic lighting and textures, better controls due to the fantastic design of the Xbox 360 controller, more content...oh wait not really, and finally the ability to create your own room and invite friends…oh wait, you can’t do that either unless you’re in a clan. Oh well, I guess you can say that it is 50% better than the current gen versions right?
So why plunk down the 60 bucks for Battlefield 2 if you have played it already on the current gen consoles? The answer is simple…it’s Battle-freaking-field 2! This is one of the most solid and addicting online games out there. Unique soldier classes, tons of vehicles, large full-range maps, multiple country choices each with their own arsenal, deep stat tracking, lots of weapons to blow sh*t up with, and of course up to 24 players to team up with or destroy online. The single player portion returns, and while the levels have not changed, it’s obvious from the get go that the game did see a plastic surgeon in its time off. The game is flat out gorgeous now, and even rivals and sometimes outdoes its PC counterpart. The hot swapping effect is still here and is as impressive as ever allowing you to take over a teammate if you are dying, dead, or just need to reach another area to be more effective against the enemy. The A.I. seems to have been improved as well, allowing for a more competitive offline experience. For me, it doesn’t get much better than this. Sure, it is a port, but a damn good one that will keep me busy for quite some time. The game does so much right, and so little wrong, minus some online joining and creating issues. Is the game for you if you have or have had Battlefield 2 on the Xbox or PS2? I guess the answer is depending on how much of your life was sucked into it the first time around. If the answer is “a lot of it”, then you would be a fool not to pick this up if you’re an Xbox 360 owner. If the game didn’t float your boat the first time around, there’s nothing here all that new besides a new paint job. Well, I know which group on in…so I’ll see ya online! | Graphically stunning | | Wide array of weapons and vehicles | | Excellent online play | | It's still the same game only prettier | | Where's my custom room option? |
