Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection
This game has balls o' plenty.
Ah, the days when I used to go to my favorite mom and pop eatery or Laundromat to pop a few quarters in some of my favorite pinball machines are now a thing of the past. Thanks to Crave though, I can relive some of those memories in the latest of classic compilation titles called Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection. But unless I'm doing my own laundry I'll have to do without the Downy smell.

Unlike the last Pinball Hall of Fame which featured Gottlieb's tables and wasn't all that stellar, the developers give light to one of the great pinball makers in Williams. In their day, Williams made things exciting with their crazy loops, gimmicks such as Magna Save, and LCD presentation to combine the thrill of video games and pinball into one fun machine.

This collection of pin games is great and spans over my entire childhood and teen years from the 70's, 80's and 90's! Each table is replicated perfectly and allows players to have flashbacks of all the lights, bells and whistles, all moving at 60fps. When looking for your favorite machine, the game tries to recapture your youth with an interesting menu screen. You enter a virtual arcade of sorts and get to move around and select your table. You have at your disposal The Black Knight, Firepower, Gorgar, Pinbot, Space Shuttle, Taxi, Whirlwind, Jive Time, Sorcerer, and my favorite of the collection, Funhouse, complete with Rudy Head at the far end of the table.

While it's a blast just to play these games for high scores, the developers tossed in a few achievements for good measure just to see what kind of pinball wizard you are. The goals aren't just for bragging rights either, as some are structured to unlock features in the game. Only 4 tables have free play modes, others you have to use virtual credits for. You earn these credits and the chance to unlock things such as free play by accomplishing the goals set on each table. For even more excitement you can play the Williams Challenge mode where you must hit a target score on randomly selected machines, once you hit the mark, you may move onto another machine. You finish of course once you've dominated all the machines in the game. But that's not all! If you have a bunch of pinball fanatics at the house you can participate in tournaments to see who the king of your pinball crew is.

Gameplay is what you'd expect from a pinball game, use your flippers to get to areas on the machine, hit all the hot spots, and even move the machine about to keep the ball from going to the lost ball area, but beware not to tilt! The only difference between all 3 versions of the game is the Wii uses motion sensors to tilt the machine, which is a cool idea and gets you as close to the action as possible.

If you are fan of the silver ball craziness that unfortunately in no more, then you must own Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection. Not only does it play a fantastic game of pinball, but has the best collection to date.
