Namco isn't ashamed of releasing their classic titles on every single console that comes out, heck they'll do it multiple times if the appeal exists like on the PS2, but come on guys be just a bit humble here. We all know Pac-Man is da bomb, now let it go. These are things I typically would say in this review, but alas Namco tosses a wrench into the cogs of my ramblings and adds some very unique and quite enjoyable remixes to their Wii exclusive Namco Museum Remix. Sure you have you typical Namco classic titles, 9 to be exact. But this time, Namco has remade/remixed 5 of their titles both in updated visuals and game play mechanics. It is not only a nice twist on an old formula, but the remixed versions are nearly as addicting as their original counterparts.
For the classics junkie you get; Galaxian, Dig Dug, Mappy, Xevious, Gaplus, Super Pac-Man, Pac & Pal, Pac-Mania and Cute Q. These perfect arcade translations are more times than not worth the price of admission alone. Absent still are Ms. Pac-Man, Pole Position, and Galaga, yet Galaga is offered in the form of a remix. But the big shocker is the omission of Pac-Man itself. This game is the cornerstone of Namco, yet you can't play it here? Sure they are offered on the Virtual Console…but that just means spending more money…thank you Namco. As for remixes, the following are included in the game: Pac'n Roll Remix, Galaga Remix, Pac-Motos Remix, Rally-X Remix and Gator Panic Remix. All the new remixes use the Wii remote and motion sensor quite well and the controls for each title are tight which will keep gamers into the game vs. being frustrated. While a few of the titles offer multiplayer modes, there isn't any online play to be had. Overall Namco Museum Remix is a nice little package, but at 40 bucks you have to wonder why there isn't a bigger selection of classics and of course why they didn't include the two most popular titles. This alone may have gamers pass on this collection, but I do admit that the games included and the remixes are engaging enough to merit a purchase for the classic gaming enthusiast.
