There are three Buster Bros. games, and the common theme includes running from side to side to shoot harpoons up into oncoming bubbles before they can touch you. Each time you shoot a bubble, it breaks into smaller bubbles which pose just as great a threat. Your gun gets upgraded and other power-ups appear to help as the bubbles come more quickly.

Block Block is a Breakout knockoff that includes a paddle at the bottom of the screen and a bouncy ball that breaks bricks on the opposite end. Unfortunately, this version is frustrating because the controls are just too sensitive and the images on screen are too hard to make out.

But Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo makes up for any drawbacks in the rest. You’ll be lining up color gems as they fall from the top of the screen so that they cause chain reactions – another familiar setup. But the head-to-head setup and execution make this one worth playing, even if it’s against the computer.

Making the right moves will bring up annoying gems to appear for your opponent which can’t be cleared for a particular number of turns. For appearances, each player also chooses a known fighting character, such as Ryu, Ken or Chun Li from Street Fighter and others from Darkstalkers, like Morrigan or Donovan. They appear on screen and mimic the action of the game, which offers a little bit of eye candy if you haven’t seen the animations before.

If puzzle games are your thing, this collection is worth it just for Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo. It’s an excellent variation on a proven formula.
