 Midway Arcade Treasures: Extended Play
All 3 Mortal Kombat titles on the PSP. Need I say more?
The PSP is a wonderful machine, especially when you consider all you can do with it. Now in some circles, gamers will tell you that with the right programs and not updating your firmware, you can do even more. Keep in mind, this isn’t the most moral or legal way to do things, so if you want to play some great old school arcade games legally, then Midway Arcade Treasures: Extended Play is for you.

Now some reviewers out there want to whine and moan about how this title is flawed because of loading issues. I am here to say, the load times are not that bad. Sure, there is loading between fights in the MK series, which are not in the arcades obviously, but come on people, those games were also NOT ON CD FORMAT EITHER! So of course a bit of loading is expected, or should be at least. If you are so fickle as to not get by this issue, then do not bother buying this title, as it will put your panties in a bunch. For everyone else who wants the best titles of the first two Midway Arcade Treasures series in your hands and on the go, including all three Mortal Kombat titles, then by all means for 30 bucks it doesn’t get much better!

What you get in this version of Midway Arcade Treasures is 21 of the finest arcade games to ever create blisters on your fingers. These ARE the arcade games, even with the load times. The translations are not ports, they are taken from the arcade boards you knew from your quarter munching youth. All games can be played with either the D-Pad or the analog stick, and all games play wonderfully (provided you are used to the structure of the PSP). With the help of headphones, they also still sound fantastic. Granted, the games still sound very good without headphones, but you miss out on the bass since the built in PSP speakers don’t supply much of it.

Here is the list of games included in Midway Arcade Treasures: Extended Play; Spy Hunter, Sinistar, Defender, Paperboy, 720, Klax, Joust, Marble Madness, Toobin, Rampage, Gauntlet, Rampart, Wizard of Wor, Xybots, Championship Sprint, Arch Rivals, Cyberball 2072, Xenophobe, Mortal Kombat 1, 2, and 3. That’s what I call a hand held collection. Sure, I would have like to have seen Midway toss in one or two from MAT 3 like Hydro Thunder or one of the Rush titles, but for all you get for under 30 bucks, there really shouldn’t be any complaining.

This should be an easy one for the PSP owner on your Christmas list. These games are classics and are now yours to behold and enjoy on the go.
