Never let it be said that art goes out of style. It is hard on the eyes to go back and look at first generation 3D games because it, after all, looks very dated. You can't, on the other hand, say that about artwork and the grandness of 2D games. Sure, when you think of 2D, you think old school, but you never think ugly. This is very true for the next in the nostalgia collections titled Gradius Collection for the Sony PSP. Compiling 5 classic Gradius titles, Konami brings you old school shooting on the go. In this collection, you get faithful reincarnations of Gradius I, II, III, IV, and Gaiden. Each fully complete versions of the series, each genuinely ported, and each as addicting and challenging as the next. For an added PSP touch, you may even throw this bad boy in 16:9 widescreen modes to get the full effect.
Gameplay is untouched in this emulation of sorts on the PSP, and whether you are using the analog stick or D-Pad, the controls are dead on accurate and will make your PSP "sweaty palmed" in a matter of minutes. Not only do you get over 40 levels with adjustable difficulty, but you have all kinds of added goodies on this UMD too boot. The package comes the ability to listen to any of the classic Gradius tunes, watch any of the newly added CG cut scenes featuring the adventures of Vic Viper, but for all you shooter handicapped individuals, there is a difficulty setting that will help keep your PSP in one piece. There really isn't much more to say than if you are a fan of the classic side scrolling shooter series and you own a PSP, then this really should be in your collection if you have a soul. | 5 Great Gradius games spanning over 20 years | | Loads of extras | | Difficulty settings | | No multiplayer support |
