Capcom's recent collection of classic arcade games is now available on PSP, with a few new games added for an exclusive PSP roster of Capcom heavy-hitters. Side Arms, Black Tiger, Last Duel, Mega Twins, Varth, The Speed Rumbler, 1941, Avengers, Block Block, Magic Sword, Quiz and Dragons, Forgotten World and Legendary Wings join other Capcom marquee franchises Street Fighter, Strider, Final Fight, Bionic Commando, Captain Commando and Section Z for a considerably worthy selection of Capcom titles. Having all of these titles for a portable console like the PSP is quite entertaining, as each lend themselves to quick doses of gameplay. The quality of conversion from arcade to PSP is very high, each game is not only captured in full arcade glory, but Capcom has also included options to alter screen size and orientation (horizontal to vertical for you shoot-em-up purists out there).
Nearly every game supports wi-fi Ad-Hoc play, allowing you to tag team in Final Fight or go head-to-head in the original Street Fighter. The games also support high score recordings to be uploaded via infrastructure mode, so you can compete to see who really is the best 1941 player in the world. Other bonuses include trivia questions on the history of Capcom's games, as well as art galleries, sound tests and other unlockable bonuses for each game. As with any compilation of classic games, this game is judged on value and quality. Considering that every game is captured pixel-perfect and the smacks, thuds, explosions and laser blasts are also perfect (even the legendary garbled Street Fighter "try again kiddo" is just like it was in the arcade), Capcom Classic Collection Remixed scores high points in that area, as is to be expected for classic/retro game collections. But it also receives high marks for the sheer amount of games made available--20 in all--at a suggested MSRP of $30 makes this game worthy of attention to the casual PSP gamer, and a must-have for any classic/retro gamer looking for a game that will get a lot of playtime on their PSP.
