 Capcom Classics Collection Reloaded
And the hits just keep on comin'.
The sheer amount of video game history contributed by Capcom can be taken for granted. So many shooters, brawlers and smashups carried the Capcom logo and either launched a genre or refined it. They do what they can to keep us from forgetting by being one of the most reliable producers of compilations of older games. Some companies offer older games rarely and in dubious formats. But Capcom not only offered a huge compilation not long ago for the PS2, they've now offered a related collection solely for the PSP.

The first Capcom Classics Collection (click here for reference), offered an excellent lineup of classics - not just a few good games with a bunch of filler. Instead of just plopping that list of games onto the PSP, Capcom made a few substitutions and a couple huge additions. First, many titles support multiplayer mode with other players on their own PSP - from one disk (Pirate Ship Higemaru, Mercs, Ghosts 'N Goblins, King of Dragons and 1943). Mercs, for example, is a lot like Commando but newer (if you don't know Commando, don't tell anyone. That's embarrassing). Mercs also allows co-op play, and that means you can climb into vehicles and gun turrets, and that means guaranteed fun. In addition, the game tracks statistics for interesting little tidbits like how many button presses you've hit and which games have been finished, not just high scores.

The games list includes the following, and they all look and sound great. There are some image flicker issues but on the smaller PSP screen (compared to a TV), you'll hardly notice: 1942, 1943, 1943 Kai, the original Street Fighter II, SFII Champion Edition, SFII Hyper Fighting, Ghosts 'N Goblins, Ghouls 'N Ghosts, Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts, Gun Smoke, Commando, Mercs, Exed Exes (Attack of the Savage Bees), Knights of the Round, King of Dragons, Eco Fighters, Pirate Ship Higemaru and Sun Sun.

Hands down, Capcom offers the most complete nostalgia collections available. The latest includes titles practically destined for portable systems and is well worth the price.
