People who know me know I love to sing. Just take my Punk cover of Runaround Sue (Click Here to check it out) for instance - that is all me, from the instruments to the backing and lead vocals. So when Carry-A-Tune asked me to cover the latest in the Singing Coach lineup, I was happy to oblige, and maybe even help stretch my own personal range. This product is great from everyone, whether you are just a beginner or just need to give the old vocal chords a workout. Heck, it even comes with its own headset microphone too boot. Keep in mind, this is not a game like Karaoke Revolution, this is a teaching product that with a little time and dedication will help make you the hit of the party or your favorite Karaoke bar. Sure, there are games involved to make things interesting by keeping a high score, but in the end, this game is serious about making you a better singer.
Singing Coach Unlimited comes with a CD packed with everything you need from the get go. You have the ability to upload MIDI Files; you can compose your own songs, it includes a pitch tracking system, 20 professional singing lessons, the ability to track up to 6 singers' progress, 24 starter songs, and the ability to access up to 10000 songs from various websites. You begin with a ton of lessons that test your vocal range and accuracy, each harder than the next. For seasoned singers, this will be a breeze, but for newbies, the pace is easy to follow and is less discouraging than some arrogant music teacher. The animated characters along with humorous voice acting help lighten the mood. Once you have set your vocal range, practice a few songs, you are ready to be judged by the strict but fair judging system. At least Simon Cowell won't snub you, as the game treats you more like Randy and Paula. If there are a couple criticisms to make, here they are. The MIDI Songs provided are too few... I mean 24? At least you could have given us a few hit songs on the CD that are from actual artists. Next, you must set up the microphone perfectly if you expect to be heard clearly and accurately by the computer judge. Lastly, I am not the biggest fan of MIDI music, as they are usually different arrangements then what you may be used to. Otherwise the product is top notch and does what is sets out to do, teach you to sing and for under 100 bucks! Don't expect to suddenly be signed to a record label after you hum a few bars with this product, but if anything, Singing Coach Unlimited will allow you to take your vocals out of the shower and into public without embarrassment.
