 Knights of Honor
Paradox loves their Knights and their RTS titles.
Fans of empire building, tactical battles, and medieval themed strategy, get ready to fill your nights with this game about Knights. While not quite on par with the ‘next generation’ RTS titles like Rome: Total War, Knights of Honor is a pleasant little romp that keeps things aggressive, yet simple. We’re talking old school here people, so don’t expect anything too ground breaking as even though the title is solid, you can’t help but feel the “been there, done that” atmosphere that Knights of Honor brings forth.

Graphics in Knights of Honor could use some spit and polish. While not fugly, you will not be showing this off to your friends or using this title to tech test your PC. For what you get, the visuals are very passable and show great animations, supply great CG cut scenes, and have a well-read menu set up.

Knights of Honors may not be a looker, but the sounds are great. A nice orchestrated soundtrack gets you in the mood to smite your foes, while the voice talent really keeps the game alive. All the sounds and music is rich and full of quality. Your speakers will be thanking your for such a pleasant experience.

As far as realism goes, this game is a good step above the Lord of the Realm series. You will notice right off that the A.I. is smart, quick, and aggressive. This will lead you to strategizing your plans more thoroughly and managing your resources with a sounder mind. The A.I. is so smart that is will pinpoint your weak areas and dispose of them first. It is from this smart thinking that I suggest this game only to the familiar to this genre as rookies may find themselves being slaughtered rather quickly. I could easily compare the CPU A.I. to the intelligence of some very good online players, it is really that good.

Knights of Honor will give fans a plethora of objectives, missions, and online play to keep you busy for hundreds of hours. You get over 100 kingdoms to rule, settings of various and multiple time periods, with an addicting and challenging online mode who could ask for anything more from this team. Well it’s not all a hill of beans as the multiplayer is a bit limited with only 6 players and during this review, not many were seen to even get that satisfaction. I hope that when the game hits in May, more folks will be online to give gamers a decent challenge.

Overall, if you can get passed the stale visuals and ho-hum same old, same old feeling, and you just love storming the castles, then by all means pick this one up later this month. For the rest of you, the game feels almost too ancient…or should I say medieval.
