 Bandits: Phoenix Rising
Scots with Guns! There’s a lot of game under this kilt.
What could be more appealing than Scottish dwarfs fighting to survive in a post apocalypse wasteland? Don’t answer that, but you have to admit it’s a different concept set up in a similar idea. That’s right, instead of Aussie Mel Gibson; you have Scottish dwarfs Fennec and Rewdalf of the Wolf pack gang in a Mad Max vehicular combat game. Is this title worth your buck? Yeah, especially if you playing this title online, a good time is to be had. Here’s why.

The tracks are set up in open, desert like environments. While they are bland (remember it’s the desert) they have rich detailed textures throughout. The vehicles are also designed well, ranging from huge tank like beasts, to smaller dune buggy types. The environments also create nice particle effects, from the dirt and sand to the backdrop exploding targets. The explosions themselves are fantastic with great lighting and fire effects that make you feel as if you’ve done some serious damage. Overall the visuals are pretty impressive and it doesn’t really take a monster PC to run the game either.

The sound effects are loud and impressive, given you have a good sound system too boot. Voice acting is a riot, supplying great humor in the dialog. Bandits also utilizes over 2 hours of original music that gets your pulse racing while you put the hurting on your opponents. The weapon effects are also impressive, and if you have a great surround system, you may just scare your neighbors, especially in the time we are living in. Nothing really stands out as new or out of this world, but will definitely rattle your windows.

The game is fun and plays incredible precise. With the great sense of speed, and total chaotic action that surrounds you, your heart will be racing after the missions have completed. What’s more, the A.I. is very competitive and intelligent. You won’t be totally too many vehicles with ease. The game is easy to pick up and play, but if you want to go online, set up those hot keys for the masters that await you. Thankfully the game doesn’t reach a level of frustration that will make you break anything, but the challenge is strong enough to make you repeat some missions often. Game play is top notch and the mouse and keyboard option is very comfortable as well.

What fun could be really had with Bandits if it were only supplied with the 22 missions that greet the single player? Fun, but come on folks, this game is multiplayer at the core. Whether you hook up on LAN or even better with 20 suckers online, you are sure to have fun smoking the competition, or getting smoked can be fun too for you rookies out there. With the choice of playing a mass variety of vehicle, and on 9 huge detailed environments, many sleepless nights await you online. This is one game I hope doesn’t get lost, as it’s a ton of fun online.

If you’re tired of the same old FPS or RTS games on the market, Bandits finally gives you a bit of variety you’ve not felt sense the Decent or Forsaken series. Fans of shooters and/or vehicular combat should give this a spin. Treat yourself, as it’s priced pretty low at the 29 or 39-dollar range.
