Spin-offs, while most times seeming like a good idea, usually turn out to be a really bad move. But there has been one spin-off character who has been carving out his own fan base. This guy is Wario, the greedy doppelganger of Nintendo's beloved mascot, Mario. Ever since Wario's first apperence in Super Mario Land 2: The Six Golden Coins, he has been gaining his own recognition as a stand alone franchise character for Nintendo. With five titles under his belt and one coming out for the Gamecube, it is way beyond safe to say that Wario is here to stay. However, Wario's latest adventures are far from his traditional adventures of the past. In his latest title, WarioWare, Inc: Mega MicroGame$; Wario decides that the best way to get rich quick is to get into the video game business. Therefore, WarioWare, Inc. was born. Unfortunately programming isn't really Wario's strongest ability; also it is boring, which tends to make the greedy one sleepy. So Wario decides to call upon his wacky group of friends to help him realize his dream of making millions with WarioWare, Inc.
The only way to describe WarioWare is pure madness! WarioWare is just full of mini-games; all are uncomplicated and all last about 2 to 4 seconds. All of the games have a simple theme, like dodge, catch, munch, match, shoot, and some games are pulled right from the NES classic library. Really there are just too many games to go into detail about all of them here, without writing a small novel. Furthermore, all of the games controls are very straightforward, making all of the games easy to pick up and easy to understand. Graphically, WarioWare, Inc. is wacky, lighthearted, and follows the same concept of every other facet of the game, simple. While it is true that graphically WarioWare is not even close to pushing the GBA hardware in any shape or form, it simply doesn't matter. The simple graphics in WarioWare help to make this title fun. Now I want to be perfectly clear about this, in no way am I saying that graphically WarioWare looks poor; just simple. WarioWare pits you against the games of each and every one of Wario's friends. Each of Wario's buddies has their own genre type. In most of the games, if you mess up it is over, causing you to lose one of your four lives. Each of Wario's road-dogs has 15 to 25 levels in their stage; each stage is capped off with a boss fight. Of course as you defeat the different stages, you will unlock different side games that you can play solo or with a pal. WarioWare, Inc: Mega MicroGame$ is one of the most innovative titles to come out for any platform in quite some years. Also, with the addition of a whole cast of new characters to add to Nintendo's already all-star cast; some of the better new characters are Jimmy, Mona, and 9-Volt, all which carry loads of personality. And with tons of games to master, and quite a bit of side games to unlock, gives Wario's latest entry into the limelight plenty of replay-ability. This is one of those rare titles that is incredibly easy to pick up and get into, but extremely hard to put down for long. With an auto-save function after every stage; conceivably, you can just play a quick stage that would take roughly about 40 to 70 seconds and put the game down. This makes WarioWare, Inc. a wonderful game to have in your GBA for all occasions. All in all it is wonderful to see a game with all of the addictive qualities of the arcade games of old. But put in a creative fast paced environment, making WarioWare, Inc: Mega MicroGame$ an exciting gaming experience for gamers of all ages and all levels. Now if you will excuse me, I believe that I have stopped playing WarioWare for long enough now...
