Super Street Fighter II Turbo Revival
A Capcom classic packs a punch in your pocket.
Super Street Fighter II Turbo Revival is the same old Street Fighter version that came out in the mid 90’s. It’s a straight port, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t fun. Capcom puts a glossy finish on the title with new character art. Plus that classic gameplay is as tight as ever on the Game Boy Advance.

SFIITR has 16 brawlers in all. There are plenty of modes to play – Arcade, Versus, Training, Time Attack, Mission, Bonus, Character Edit, and Team Battle. But it’s the arcade and versus mode that’ll eat up most of your time.

The graphics are pulled straight from the SNES version of Super Street Fighter II Turbo – which is a good and bad thing. It’s nice to see more proof that the GBA can handle everything the SNES could. The title sports the same animation and sound that we saw years ago. There are a few new backgrounds, but it would have been nice to see updated sprites and more new backgrounds. As it is the game looks a bit dated. Still, all the detailed character and background animation is intact.

The sound is crystal clear on the GBA speakers. The “Ha-Do-Ken!” is just as loud, as are the ramping elephants in Dhalsim’s background. But the best part that’s translated over is the gameplay. SFIITR plays well despite the two face button and trigger configuration. To compensate for four buttons, players can hold buttons down longer to execute other commands. It’s not as intuitive for specific combos, but it hardly detracts from the overall experience.

Player can take on each other in VS mode but you’ll have to connect two copies of the game to do it. Still, it’ll be worth it if you want to have a good ol’ small screen fight fest.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo Revival is still a high-quality brawler after all these years. Just don’t expect much that's new.
