 Disney's Magical Quest 3
Help the kids, and yourself, get through a long car trip.
Huey, Dewey and Louie are missing after opening up a mysterious book in the attic. Mickey (Mouse) and Donald (Duck) set off to rescue them in Disney's Magical Quest 3. Your adventure takes the form of a classic side-scrolling platform game in which you'll play as Mickey and Donald. There's no shortage of games like this on the GBA, and this one fits in perfectly with the rest of the pack.

Both characters have different abilities which change with their costumes. Each has their own version of Knight, Wood-Cutter and Magician outfits. Generally, Mickey gets the royal treatment while Donald is treated like the second-stringer he is. Mickey's Knight wears gleaming armor and Donald's runs around in a barrel, for example.

Each plays a bit differently at times, but they're both navigating what are extremely familiar level designs. The jumping from platform to platform, navigating your way across the screen and avoiding or knocking out enemies is done as well here as on any other throwback. The graphics are crisp and well-colored, though some areas are a little bit dark. Enemies and backgrounds look good, too, making the presentation exactly what you've come to expect from Disney.

The gameplay is also pure Disney. The conflict between good guys and bad guys is gentle and suitable for any age. You don't kill any enemies, you simply bop them on the head just right and they fall over temporarily. Challenges are presented in other forms, too, like navigating the scenery to jump over obstacles or solving very simple puzzles.

Disney's Magical Quest 3 is one more game in an ever-growing collection that makes good on an extremely old formula. It's not too hard or too easy. For kids, it seems just right. There's nothing more innocent than Disney, so if you're looking to distract the youngsters during a long summer vacation car ride, this is the ticket.
