 Toy Story 2
The toys are back in town, but they didn't bring much fun with them.
Games with licenses always have trouble living up the license and Toy Story 2 doesn't make that any less true. It was developed completely with a young audience in mind making the game enjoyable to kids content with the fact that they're Buzz Lightyear. But unlike Buzz, the gameplay doesn't go to infinity and beyond.

To rescue Woody, Buzz Lightyear has a variety of objectives to complete in each level. The point is to gather more Pizza Planet Tokens to open up more zones on the world map. Buzz gets to race, solve puzzles, and fight a boss in each level. The levels look more like this game is playing on a Playstation rather than a Dreamcast, but the models are clean - just not all that detailed. There is plenty of variety in each level (15 in all) that is pretty cool - Buzz gets to shoot enemies with his laser, stomp on them, spin attack, or shoot them first person style. And as a small toy moving in a big human world there are lots of places to climb and swing from.

But what makes this tough to do are the poor controls and crazy camera. Buzz controls like he's walking in space and moves looser than a noodle. He also slips around and makes the objectives quite hard to accomplish. The camera doesn't seem to know where to point - sometimes it faces the front of the character for no reason and turning makes the camera spin nauseously. It's a shame because the gameplay wouldn't be all that bad if the camera and Buzz moved around well.

Dispersed throughout Toy Story are crystal clear clips from the movie that are great for movie fans. It's too bad that the game wrapped around the CG clips aren't worthy of the movie.
