 Gauntlet Legends
The popular arcade game finally makes its way home in perfect form.
Take any arcade game and botching the home version is an easy way to make coin-op fans angry. It happened when Gauntlet Legends was ported to the N64 and PSX, but fans get to rejoice as the Dreamcast port is near perfection.

To one-up the arcade version, Gauntlet Legends for the DC lets you pick from 4 new classes taken from the sequel - Dwarf, Sorceress, Knight, and Jester. Four more characters can also be unlocked for more personalized fun. And like the N64 and PSX home ports, exclusive new levels can be found in the DC version.

Players get a handful of fighting with 7 worlds to venture in. Each world has a different theme. There are nice waterfalls and dark lava caves in Warrior's Mountain along with desert and forest landscapes in the other realms. The contrast between levels keep the game fresh, and it's nice to kill a variety of enemies in a number of locals. The worlds as well as the players look great thanks to good textures and a good number of polys. The visuals lack a certain luster that were found in the arcade version, but the effort is still spectacular.

No Gauntlet title would be complete with an onslaught of hack and slash gameplay. Gauntlet Legends has plenty of it, and the DC is perfectly capable of handling a great number of on-screen enemies with little slowdown. And if you add a couple of friends to join in the game still runs at a decent and very playable frame rate. Multiplayer fighting has always been Gauntlet's greatest strength. It's a blast to have 3 or 4 players fight and even better to have little slowdown to hinder the fun.

Gauntlet fans will love Gauntlet Legends on the DC. The port is faithful down to the booming announcer that reminds you to avoid dangerous objects. Everything looks and sounds great, plus the mutiplayer experience can't be touched.
