 102 Dalmations
A kiddy platformer, but oddly still a fun game.
Okay, if you're not young at heart, hate Disney flicks, and are sickened at the sight of yet another platformer, stop reading this now. On the other hand, if you can stomach the obvious draw to a younger audience and respect that this is a decent platformer, by all means read on…you'll be pleasantly surprised.

102 Dalmatians: Puppies to the Rescue isn't ground breaking by any means, but what it accomplishes along the way can be described as both fun and frustrating. What can I say; I'm a sucker for a platform title.

Graphically it's both splendid and nauseous. Showing off a pretty good polygon count and steady animation, the game really looks quite smart. Capturing the movie's feel through polys is nice, but has been done better in Wacky Races and Looney Tunes. Large, yet far from boundless 3D levels are richly detailed to recreate wonderful Disney magic. One alarming note to the weak stomached; Cameras in this game tend to send you on your way to "Dizney" land. While a smarter camera in many ways than the Gex series with its lack of collision, it just seems to spin around too often. With this small gripe out of the way, the game is rather pleasing to the eye (if not a little blocky), but nothing striking in the way of lighting or effects. You get what you expect in this cartoon styled romp.

Audio is also done pretty satisfactorily. The music comes straight from the movie, supporting a nice orchestrated feel. Voice acting is also decent, but not great, even with many stars helping out. (like Eric Idle and Frankie Muniz) Of course no platform game would be complete without sparkly sounds to support item pick-ups. This game is cute, and the audio doesn't let you forget that either.

Gameplay seems to plague most games in this genre, mainly due to a clunky camera system. 102 Dalmatians, however, does not. Stealing a lot from the Spyro series, one can expect tight responsive controls, and fair collision detection to boot. If it weren't for the solid game play, 102 Dalmatians would be a passable title. Since it does play well though, you might want to give it a go if you are craving a platformer.

102 Dalmatians has its fair share of bonus goodies as well. While some play better than others, the mini-games do come in handy to break the monotony. With plenty of huge levels and mini-games, Dalmatians provides many hours of game play. Geared for the youngster, you may want to let your younger brother or sister take a go, but oddly enough I liked this game. Being 27 years of age, does that make me sick? Nah, just bored I guess.

Lastly, the game gets the C rating due to its overwhelming childish style, yet the game is more enjoyable than you would think. Take it for a spin and see if you still have a little of that Disney magic left in you. I guess I'm still just a kid at heart.
