Screens & Info Updated: 10/1/2004 New screens detailing Conflict's assortment of awesome vehicles to drive/pilot.
The main characters in Conflict: Vietnam spend most of the game slowly but surely making their way out of enemy territory by trudging through treacherous jungles, underground tunnels and small villages. Occasionally, they’ll have the good fortune to come across a vehicle that helps speed their progress to safety. Vehicles that players will come across in Conflict: Vietnam include the GAZ 69 Jeep, M48 Patton Tank, M50 Ontos Recoilless Rifle Tank, M113A1 APC, MKII PBR River Boat, and the UH-1 Huey Transport Helicopter. Screens Updated: 8/18/2004 To survive in the harsh jungles of Vietnam, you’ll need to keep your wits about you and every member of your squad in prime condition. The skill advancement system in Conflict: Vietnam allows players to decide in which of nine fields their squad members will specialize, essentially giving the player more control over gameplay as they progress through the story. It is possible to build up a stealth kill team consisting entirely of snipers, a squad of heavy weapon experts that charge into every battle, or whatever mix of soldiers best fits a particular style of play. After each mission is completed, squad members are awarded skill points for completing primary and bonus objectives, taking down enemy soldiers and vehicles, fire accuracy, and stealth kills. Points are deducted for killing civilians and friendly soldiers. These points are split amongst the four squad mates, and then spent to raise their skills in Pistol, Assault Rifle, Sniper Rifle, Machine Gun, Grenade, Shotgun, Medic, Rocket Launcher, and Booby Traps. The higher the skill, the more points it costs to raise. Screens Updated: 6/22/2004 Brand new screens from Gathering's very promising 'nam title. There's a lot of competition in this sub-genre this year, but Conflict is looking pretty hot. Gathering and Pivotal Games have thoroughly explored the Middle East in their Conflict series, but the companies are looking toward the heated jungles of Vietnam for their next title. Conflict: Vietnam follows four barely trained soldiers cut off from supplies and help during the 1968 Tet Offensive. Their only hope for survival is to walk through 100 miles of enemy territory and hope their rapidly dwindling ammunition supply is enough to sustain them through the journey. The newest installment in the Conflict games looks to introduce several new features, including: - Fourteen enormous missions will take players deep into the Vietnamese jungle, through small villages, into ruined temples, and down Viet Cong tunnel complexes.
- Fully deformable environments that players can use against the enemy or that the enemy can use against them. Splinter vehicles apart, shoot out lights, collapse buildings – whatever it takes to survive!
- Use performance-based points after each mission to develop your characters in 12 skill categories such as Sniper, Medic, Demolitions and Leadership.
- A revitalized control scheme allows context sensitive commands such as giving covering fire and flanking enemies.
- An era-specific arsenal of over 20 weapons including assault rifles, mortars, .50 caliber machine guns and the ability to call in napalm air strikes.
- A wide range of vehicles puts your squad behind the wheel of APCs, Jeeps, tanks, helicopters and river boats.
- Paranoia inducing AI with enemies that set booby traps, strike from hidden areas, and coordinate their attacks in an environment that they are the masters of.
Conflict: Vietnam is scheduled for a release in the fall on the Xbox, PlayStation 2 and PC simultaneously.
