Brian goes hands-on with the next Crash Bandicoot title..
 Latest Media More Media (8)

Platformer fans gather round, as you will want to take a ride with the world’s most favorite Bandicoot, Crash later this year. In this new adventure, Crash teams up with his archenemy Neo Cortex in order to overthrow a new a horrible alien threat. It will take some major teamwork to succeed in this latest Crash adventure, let us just hope they can leave their differences to the wayside so they can save the world.

I know most of you are thinking…another Crash Bandicoot game? Well, yes and no. Yes, as it is another great platformer that will keep your twitch fingers nimble and your brain stems active. No, because this time Crash is finally in 3D! While still in a linear, point A to B state, the game allows more moveable freedom about each area. Thankfully, the control stays similar and manageable, and throws in a decent 3rd person camera for once in a platform title.

Visually, the game is not going to blow the minds of anyone, as it still looks like your typical run, bounce, collect, platform title. The game is well animated, color, complete with large interactive and strange environments. What will sell this game more than anything are the hilarious gags that you encounter. Whether it is in the story itself, or through chest and obstacles, the gags are plentiful and each just as funny as the next.

The game provides a good amount of voice acting in the game, which helps bring the characters to life. The music is whimsical and suits this comic book/Saturday morning, cartoon style atmosphere quite well.

It is hard to tell at this point how long the game may turn out, or even how much is worth replaying in order to complete the game 100 %. From the beta build, I had the chance to play, it still seems very typical and short, but hopefully my observations will change when the final product ships later this year.

Fans of the genre will want to pick this up, if only for the laughs and gags supplied by the writers of Ren and Stimpy. The game is your straight forward, pick up and play variety of platformer, with no real new twist or additions to the genre to mention. With the platform games being light on new titles until Sly 2, Jax 3, and Ratchet 3 come out, you could not do worse by picking this up when it hits retail stores. Just do not expect a genre defining title in this sequel.
