The folks at Pandemic have been hard at work developing a sequel to the squad-based military strategy game, Full Spectrum Warrior. Our contacts at THQ have provided me with a demo of the new game Ten Hammers and I was impressed with the new features I saw. I didn't really see any graphical improvements or other glitz and the camera control was sort of wobbly and confusing, but the new features and abilities really have me interested in this last generation title. All of the previous capabilities are there, but instead of being stuck with four man fire teams, you can split your team up into two teams of two for a more fine degree of coordination. You don't need them in the demo, but in Ten Hammers, they place you in control of two additional teams Charlie and Delta. This implies larger scale engagements but we'll have to wait and see. The team leader has a new ability where he can fire a precise shot at a target that pops out of cover to fire at you. It pulls you into a sort of first person mode where you have a short time to fire a single shot before you have to go back behind cover. Perhaps the coolest new feature is the ability to actually enter buildings, move up and down stairs and clear rooms. You'll do this to clear out snipers so your friendly units can maneuver safely and you may even use them to pick off hostiles from an upstairs window. Wrapping it up is the introduction of vehicles like the Bradley infantry fighting vehicle. All you can do in the demo is drive around and use the 25mm cannon and the 7.62mm machine gun, but I'd expect to see more in the actual game. Supposedly there will be online head-to-head game play, but we'll have to see how this turns out. Cooperative play is awesome, but playing as the insurgents would be really cool too. All in all, there's a lot to look forward to in this game. Hopefully it won't disappoint.
