Party Mode returns to the NHL 2K series and in NHL 2K6, brand new ways to play and new mini-games are available! Party Mode delivers a new spin to hockey action - playable for up to four players offline and online, NHL 2K6’s Party Mode includes these six new mini-games:

  • Stay On Target - Players skate to one of the three open targets to take control and then must stay on it as long as possible to gain points. If a player is without a target, they need to lay a big time check on an opponent to steal theirs away.
  • Break The Ice - Team based game where two teams are divided by a center wall. Players get the puck and score points by using the dump feature to destroy objects in the opposing area.
  • Speed Race - The first player to complete five laps around the course, which is littered with tons of obstacles, wins!
  • Super Smash - Players use the Intense Contact Controls on the Right Analog Stick and smash as many objects as they can to win.
  • Dodge - Players must avoid and dodge the constantly moving barrels. Make contact with a metal barrel five times and the player is out of the game. The last man standing wins!
  • Capture - Classic retake on capture-the-flag where the gamer moves his player to an opponent's target to get their flag. Bringing it back to the player’s home target will award a point. The first player to score on another player will receive a bonus point. If a player can last the whole game without getting scored on, they will win five extra points. If a player knocks over another player with their flag, they will garner a bonus point. It’s every man for himself!

NHL players are not made overnight, as the various skills hockey players acquire are learned through many years of intense development. The same can be said for NHL championship teams-- finding what combination of players and abilities work best together on the ice gets you that much closer to the Stanley Cup. The two newest Franchise features in NHL 2K6 – Practice and Team Chemistry – demonstrate the importance of training on off-days to enhance skills and finding the right chemistry between players to maximize playing effectiveness on the ice.

In NHL 2K6, Franchise mode players can take advantage of off-days by conducting several different types of practice. In Individual Practice, gamers can select specific team members to work on different areas like Shooting, Stick Work, or Defense, as well as set the intensity of each exercise (higher intensity gives a bigger skill bonus but also increases player fatigue). Scrimmages can be conducted to improve chemistry between teammates and experiment with various line combinations; winning a Scrimmage will not only improve Team Chemistry, but will also make a bonus drill available that can potentially reduce team fatigue.

Team Chemistry is measured throughout the season. The coaching staff of a franchise will regularly give a detailed report on the chemistry for every line. Depending on the skill of staff, they can also provide chemistry ratings for upcoming opponents, as well as offer suggestions to improve your own team’s ratings. In addition, gamers can tinker with different players on various lines on their own to see which combinations yield the highest result. No other hockey game delivers the importance of Franchise player and team development like NHL 2K6.

Passing the puck is an elementary skill in hockey, but one that is important to master. Setting up give-n-go shots, breakaways, dump and chase situations, and other scoring opportunities not only develop from good passing, but from great execution and control. NHL 2K6 is proud to introduce the ProControl system, giving gamers a completely new set of mechanics and techniques. At the most basic level, ProControl is an icon-passing system with the ability to queue up passes to other team members. By pressing down on the Right Analog Stick, button icons will appear over each player, enabling more precise passing.

For the advanced player, ProControl enables true puck cycling to properly set up offensive scoring chances. By pressing a quick button sequence, the player can create a pass sequence to set up exciting scoring chances.

Additionally, ProControl gives the player the ability to protect the puck, and make dump passes. No other hockey game delivers the authentic NHL experience like NHL 2K6.

The high-speed, physical play in the NHL makes hockey one of the most exciting games in all of sports. Quick reflexes, hard checks, and unbelievable agility are some of the things a casual fan may see. What's not so easily seen are the more intricate strategies and tactics that are constantly being used on both offense and defense throughout the course of a game. This deeper level of play can now be experienced by hockey fans of every level through NHL 2K6's On-The-Fly Coaching system. Players can select four quick offensive tactics to call at anytime that include crashing the net for rebound opportunities and screening the goalie, which positions a player to specifically impede the netminder’s vision. These offensive strategies are countered with defensive On-The-Fly Coaching tactics that include clearing the net of opposing players and calling for double-team help. No game delivers the unique blend of intense hockey action with the deeper strategic decision making like NHL2K6.

It's been a long wait for hockey fans, but the return of the best-rated hockey video game series three years and counting brings the all the thrill of ice action back. There may not be an NHL season this year, but NHL 2K6 promises to give all puckheads their fix. NHL 2K6 is stocked full with innovative features, slick animations, and the most exciting and authentic game of hockey on any console.

Features:

  • ProControl - Exploit your opponent’s defense and take advantage of true NHL A.I. with icon passing, give-and-go attacks, puck cycling and behind the net plays.
  • On-The-Fly Coaching - Play your style of hockey at both ends of the ice by calling team strategy during the action. Crash the net, screen the goalie and pinch defensemen on offense. Then, counter the attack by clearing the crease, clearing the zone, or setting up a break out for an offensive rush.
  • Enforcer System - Throw opponents off their game by bringing out your checking line. Now, bigger and more aggressive players weigh into the outcome of a game as much as your leading goal scorers, as physical play will lower opponents’ performance ratings.
  • Maximum Goaltending - Take matters into your own hands by utilizing your right analog stick to make quick, intuitive saves when it counts the most.
  • Fluid Animations - Thousands of new NHL-caliber animations to feast your eyes on including spectacular saves in goal by Marty Turco.
  • Franchise Perfection - An unsurpassed franchise experience hinges a team’s success on your ability to schedule workouts, scrimmages and manage team chemistry.
  • The Online Experience - 2K Sports continues to lead the online gaming revolution as NHL 2K6 delivers seamless online play and the most comprehensive online feature set anywhere, including complete online stat tracking, buddy lists management, and online leagues.
