Building a NBA team and continuing its success takes a lot of time, attention to detail, and a solid plan. To succeed, gamers need the right staff, the top players, a good development strategy, and lots of luck. If they think they can handle the ups and down of managing an NBA team, they better get ready for the new Association challenge in NBA 2K6.

As players begin The Association, they’ll need to find a team owner they can work with. Every owner has a different personality and focus that gamers need to pay attention to and cater to; keeping the owner happy will keep a general manager from being fired. One major change that players will immediately notice is easy navigation through menus within The Association. Now, with the Right Analog Stick, gamers will be able to access a quick menu from the central Calendar, giving easy access to everything a manager needs to know. Also, players will be able to keep track of the essential Team Chemistry, which can determine the success or failure of an NBA team. Team Chemistry is affected by how long players have been together and the overall success of the team.

The biggest additions to The Association this year are the Team Practices and Player Development Drills. During off-days in the regular season, players can assign Team Practices to help prepare teams for upcoming opponents or to strengthen team chemistry. Player Development Drills can be assigned to specific players, and gamers can take control of the player to complete one of 15 different drills. Successful completion will increase players’ attributes permanently for their career!

The Association also brings the most comprehensive stat tracking for players’ franchise needs. New additions include the Rookie Watch that highlights hot rookie players and the addition of every NBA award given out at the end of the regular season. This includes Most Improved Player, Sixth Man Award, as well as All-NBA teams, All-Defensive teams, and much more. If the challenge of managing an NBA team is what gamers want, welcome to the Association.

NBA athletes who never challenge their abilities can never improve their game; only the NBA athletes who can adapt their skills to make the important baskets in the most intense situations elevate their game to the next level. For years, basketball video games have followed the basic mechanic of the “shoot” button. There have been attempts to make interesting additions to the basic “shoot” button mechanic, but shooting the ball has remained relatively unchanged. Now, NBA 2K6 will elevate gamers to the next level through the new Shot Stick.

Using the Right Analog Stick, the Shot Stick is simple and intuitive to use, yet challenging and exciting to master. By pressing and holding down on the Right Analog stick, the player will begin his jump shot animation. As the player releases the ball, releasing the Right Analog Stick at the right time will ensure the most accurate jump shot. This intuitive mechanic really shines when performing layups. Now, with the Shot Stick, players attempting layups can choose to layup from the left side or right side of the basket. This allows for an unprecedented amount of control when selecting the right shot.

Lastly, the Shot Stick not only delivers outstanding shot control but when used in conjunction with the Aggressive button, users can now choose what dunks they perform. Up to five different types of dunks can be performed, determined by the dunk ability of the player and the commands executed by the gamer. Whether it’s a thunderous two-handed jam by Shaq (Right on Shot Stick + Aggressive button) or a show-stopping 360 dunk by Tracy McGrady (full-circle motion on Shot Stick + Aggressive button), gamers call all the shots.

NBA players develop their skills through years of playing on the playground, in school, and in college. What sets the elite basketballers apart from the rest however, is their natural ability and athletic instinct-- where thought becomes action. Redefining movement in NBA2K6, the IsoMotion crossover system empowers the gamer with the most realistic and intuitive movement in any NBA video game.

Crossovers in NBA 2K6 are a combination of simple movements on the Left Analog stick combined with tapping or holding the new Aggression button. As in previous years, player attributes are tied directly with how proficient and quickly players can perform crossover modes. Tapping the Aggression button will initiate a hesitation mode and holding the Aggression button will make the player enter Isomotion mode. In this mode, using the aggressive button in combination with the Left Analog stick will perform different moves, including crossovers-- a quick left to right motion will initiate a left to right crossover, while a quick 360 twirl of the stick will execute a spin. Now, whatever the gamer thinks is a natural action, he can simply and intuitively put into play.

The flashy dunks, the electrifying alley-oops, the up-and-under lay-ups, and even the three-point buzzer beaters-- all these highlight reel finishers would never take place without a good pass. Passing is one of the most necessary fundamentals of basketball and the NBA 2K series has continually created passing mechanics that deliver the most authentic and exciting gameplay in any b-ball simulation game. NBA 2K6 continues to innovate passing controls with a plethora of passing techniques to maximize the offensive prowess of each team.

Basic directional passing and lead passing in NBA 2K6 has been enhanced for better accuracy and realism. Alley-oop passing has been refined in NBA 2K6 so the user can perform it at anytime. In order to complete a successful alley-oop, the timing and situation must be right . Bad positioning or defensive pressure can force alley-oop passes out of bounds or even cause a turnover.

New to NBA 2K6 is the Icon Lead Passing, a new feature that allows gamers to perform a pass to a specific player and lead that player to a designated area on the court. Finally, gamers can use athletes with great passing attributes to perform flashy passes adding style and excitement on a scoring play. When it comes to giving gamers realistic and exciting passing options, NBA 2K6 delivers.
