Screens & Info Updated: 9/9/2004 The next computer animated release from DreamWorks Pictures arrives in early October and Activision and Edge of Reality have been hurriedly preparing a video game release to swim into stores a week before the film's theatrical debut. Though licensed-based releases have a bad history, Activision has been surprisingly consistent in producing enjoyable releases for its hardcore and younger audiences. Shark Tale falls into the latter category, but it doesn't remove the fact that Shark Tale is actually pretty decent. You'll never encounter the same gameplay twice during your time with Shark Tale. Incorporating events from the film and additional sequences created specifically for the video game release, main character Oscar (voiced by Will Smith in the film) will find himself fighting sharks in Punch Out style, busting out some dance moves for the news cameras ala Dance Dance Revolution (plug in an actual DDR mat to enhance the experience) and racing through the reef streets, collecting pearls along the way. There's simply an enormous amount of variety in Shark Tale, and some of the mini-games are surprisingly difficult. Even though Shark Tale is aimed at the younger crowd, parents and older siblings shouldn't find themselves annoyed to jump in on the fun. Though our hands-on experience was with a preview build on the Xbox, if the rest of the mini-games are as varied as those we've encountered so far, Shark Tale will be a great game for kids and adults alike. Based on the upcoming fall release of DreamWorks' "Shark Tale," the game takes you on a new adventure as Oscar, a bigger-than-life fish working his way up the food chain, who becomes an unlikely hero as he searches for an easy path to fame and fortune. With a blend of original and film-inspired gameplay, players immerse themselves in a hip, underwater urban culture featuring the gritty environments of Reef City and funky tunes inspired by the film. Features: - The Only Game That Lets Fans Relive the "Shark Tale" Film and Beyond-Fans play as Oscar, the fish with more fast-talking flash than any other lead character, and relive movie locations as well as unique environments and situations in 25 numerous adventure-packed missions.
