Lord of the Rings: The Third Age
A proper RPG experience in world of Lord of the Rings comes home this fall.

It makes perfect sense for a role-playing-game set in the Middle-Earth universe to exist, but forgetting previous attempts from Interplay years back, no company has stepped forward. This fall, however, Electronic Arts deviates from their previous action-RPG attempts with a proper RPG in a world ripe with death and destruction in Lord of the Rings: The Third Age.

Though you'll interact with Aragon, Legolas and other heroes and villains featured in the Lord of the Rings, but will be in direct control of brand new characters forging their own storyline. Who these new characters are or how they fit into the Middle-Earth universe has not been discussed by Electronic Arts. In addition to fighting alongside the Fellowship, bonus quests where battling on Sauron's side can be unlocked. Battling the Balrog in the Mines of Moria, defending the fallen city of Osgiliath, or trying to destroy Helm’s Deep are just a few of the scenarios present in Lord of the Rings: The Third Age.

Obviously, the combat is a bit different in this new adventure, taking on a more sophisticated turn-based battle system. Specific details on how the system will work, however, have yet to be released.

More information on the Lord of the Rings: The Third Age is expected when Electronic Arts shows off the newly announced release at their E3 booth. The game will be release in the fall on the PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube and Game Boy Advance.
