It’s been a while since the release of the last Shining Force release on the Saturn, and even longer since the original Shining Force on the Genesis made an appearance. Remakes and ports are all the rage on the Game Boy Advance, though, clearing an easy path for Sega’s Shining Force remake, dubbed Resurrection of the Dark Dragon. Fan favorite Atlus has picked up the title for a US release, and is in the midst of translation in time for a June release.

The Dark Dragon has slept for a great long time, but if an unknown traveler named Darksol has his way, the monstrous creature will be awakened from its slumber and commanded to wreak havoc on the land and its people. Gamers are in charge of a promising young hero washed ashore in Guardiana, the kingdom Darksol has convinced the King of Runefaust to invade as part of his plot. It’s in player’s hands to uncover the Legacy of the Gods and stop the awakening of the Dark Dragon in the process.

"Shining Force for the Game Boy Advance is a revitalization of the classic strategy RPG," Project Lead Akibo Shieh said. "With improved graphics, new characters, and fine-tuned game balance, it will keep even the most experienced gamer enthralled for hours and hours!"

Shining Force: Resurrection of the Dark Dragon is a remake of the original Shining Force, leading to several additions, upgrades and tweaks made during development to keep the experience fresh for old and new players alike.

  • Control up to 12 characters in battle from a cast of over 30! Also included are three never-before-seen characters that can help you in your fight against the Dark forces.
  • Improved graphics feature added visual effects and character patterns.
  • Rebalanced game play from the original version provides for a more tactically challenging and engaging experience.
  • Unique card system allows you to collect special abilities and bonuses that could turn the tide of battle in your favor.

Maybe if Atlus’ little release is successful enough, Sega will start work on a console-side sequel in the series. Start putting down those pre-orders!
